Enter Chit Chat for Facebook (web), the latest manifestation of Athena IT Limited, the owners of the Chit Chat array of instant messaging solutions. Chit Chat (web) is a robust Facebook web messenger solution that – as you can tell by its name, you can use with your browser.
Compatible with most major browsers – Firefox, Chrome and Safari, this Facebook online chat app does much does what it says in its name
- lets you to Chit Chat on Facebook. It allows you to connect to Facebook chat with your browser, except, it has some advantages
- It’s strictly an instant messaging product, it’s much better at notifying you when you have new messages and is visually more appealing than Facebook’s generic offering.

It’s core advantage, I guess is the ability to focus on your Facebook messaging without having to install a Facebook desktop app.
Active users will notice that the application notifies you which of your friends disconnect or connect to the Facebook chat network in the top right hand corner.
Whilst you may have 1000 friends, changes are that you regularly “chit chat” with just a few – so the dynamic search box at the top of the buddy list is a welcome addition missing from Facebook’s core offering. The theme of the interface is a deep blue, however, the icon shaped like a “C” are color coded as one might expect from a traditional instant messenger. Red indicates offline, green online and yellow away; whilst a message indicates that a message has been received.
Users of this Facebook messaging web chat solution are able to insert an emoticon without having to remember the Facebook codes, which I found useful. Moreover, the solution supports the ability to make text bold and italic. As an aside, the emoticons used are different from those sent and received by Facebook’s offering – however, the meanings and icons all match up and it didn’t cause me any disharmony during my testing as to what friends were indicating.
When all is said and done, Chit Chat (web) feels like it’s a desktop instant messaging solution – except, it’s not. So, those of you that don’t like installing things on your computer will probably welcome the Facebook chat offering that Chit Chat (web) provides.
